STORY

Orval and Sycamore were monster hunting partners. Sycamore had died one day, but came back a while later via unknown means. He was never reported as anything other than a living human, only believed to be briefly missing by everyone but Orval. Orval kept it this way, going into denial about witnessing his partner’s death. Sycamore brings it up a few times but ultimately prioritizes his friend’s comfort over his situation.

The main duo complete a series of jobs, some of them believed to be connected to lingering pieces of the past Zombie Event. Sycamore does a few by himself without telling his partner.

One involves him forcibly removing trainee Firenze’s “family” from her home while she’s gone. The young women had been keeping them in the basement ever since they died. Her reaction isn’t great, to say the least. In her rage, she blurts out that something “helped” her “save” them.

An important task afterwards has them join detective Tyrrin to investigate a mansion murder incident. Sycamore has instant hostility towards Tyrrin, but the latter’s charm eventually creates a more enjoyable atmosphere. They have to look for 4 corpses there – not evidence or the culprit, just the corpses. This proves to be a bit difficult on account of the bodies having gotten up and left the main crime scene. Tyrrin explains it’s likely that the victimized family became puppets rather than simply undead. They believe the culprit to be something called the “Memory Engine” which has been spotted attacking people.
